Where's the professor to talk up all the benefits to the stock market?

The LA Times is reporting that Trump plans to exit the WTO with a bill titled

The Fairness and Reciprocal Tariff Act.

I think the Hill fell for a publicity stunt here because I don't remember seeing "caps, baseball, knockoff, embroidered" on the list but it's kind of funny, anyway.

Guy says he might have to raise the price of his MAGA hats because of the tariffs. He says they're $9 to $12 (I guess if you want it spelled right) now but he'll have to raise them to $20 if he has to make them in the USA.

More socialism for the select few.

The Chicago Sun Times is reporting.

WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is preparing a plan to provide billions of dollars in emergency aid to farmers who have been hurt by tariffs. That’s according to two people who have been briefed on the plan who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement.

The Agriculture Department was expected to announce the plan later Tuesday.

Excellent! Shows China that we intend to stick by our guns. What else you got, China?

This is also a big political win for Trump. China and the Democrats were hoping to hurt Trump voters, but instead they gave Trump a platform to show that he will stand by them.

It's still socialism.

Nor will it change the loss of market share that will be needed to get back to current levels.

Speaking of sticking to your guns, what happened to being a conservative capitalist who doesn't believe in bailouts?
This is also a big political win for Trump.
LOL, we'll see.

Reactions—nearly all of them negative—poured in from Capitol Hill after the Department of Agriculture announced that it would authorize $12 billion in “emergency” subsidies to farmers whose businesses have been hurt by the president’s trade policies, which have sparked retaliatory tariffs from China, Canada, Mexico and the European Union.

Sen. John Thune (R-SD) said the Department of Agriculture’s decision is an acknowledgement of the “unintended consequences” and “collateral damage” of Trump’s protectionist policies, while Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) said Trump was creating a “Soviet type economy.”

ROFL

Republican NE Sen. Ben Sasse:

“This trade war is cutting the legs out from under farmers and the White House’s ‘plan’ is to spend $12 billion on gold crutches...America’s farmers don’t want to be paid to lose."

Republican TN Sen. Bob Corker:

"Reverse course and end this incoherent" tariff policy...the administration is "offering welfare to farmers to solve a problem they themselves created."

Republican PA Sen. Pat Toomey:

"...trying to put a band-aid on a self-inflicted wound...the administration clobbers farmers with an unnecessary trade war then attempts to assuage them with taxpayer handouts. This bailout compounds bad policy with more bad policy.”

They may be right. But it's obvious all the previous presidents were unable to correct the wrongs in the trade balance. Let's try his way for a while. He can't do any worse than all his predecessors in achieving fair trade.

p.s. Our stock market is completely unfazed by all this, as opposed to China's which is down since the trade battles began. Also, Trump's proposed tariffs if enacted, will total more than our exports to China. China can't match those, so they will have to look for some other way to get even.

Even if there were something "wrong" with trade policy, that's not his friggin' job

It doesn't, because while I oppose tariffs, I also believe fair is fair. Neither side should be placing tariffs on the other. Failing that, our trade policy should be a mirror of the other country's trade policy. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

I just replace Trump with Clinton and laugh at how you would be reacting.

The bank and auto bailouts were done when the economic condition of the country were much different than now.

Comparing them is a false equivalency at best.
