Democratic debates

Postby John Q. Public » Wed Jun 26, 2019 8:59 pm

I didn't watch, but it sounds like it was pretty civil with nobody comparing "hand" sizes and no name-calling. Highlights sounded like they were a technical glitch and Beto responding in Ingles y Español and not answering the question in either one. --:--

I thought Harris looked the best last night.
They told me if I voted for Hillary Clinton the president would be emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable. They were right. I voted for Hillary Clinton and got a president that is emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable.

Policy is important, but Mayor Pete challenging Christians and their lack of moral response to the crisis on the border is a way to shame and appeal to some of Trumps soft supporters. Challenge people who claim to be decent folk on Trumps behavior, politically being aligned with fringe right wing groups and the impact of policies they support.

I try to avoid watching presidential debates, it's like pulling up a front row seat to watch the neighbors argue. But from what I've seen, Harris sounded the most forceful but not necessarily the best. She was the most guilty of transporting 2019 into the 1980's to attack Biden.

And I think most of them sound like they're guilty of proposing more than a president can do and of proposing more radical changes than the majority of Americans want. But it's the primaries and in most states they only have to impress Democrats, so we'll see.

Williamson sounded entertaining.

100% of last night candidates said they would support a health care plan that would cover undocumented immigrants. :eh?: Is giving free stuff to non-Americans going to turn Ohio. Penn, Fl, blue?

Why is giving away free stuff so bad, when compared to what Trump has done and while do if elected again? Take a few minutes and compare the Trump/Putin meeting with May/Putin at the G20 today. Socialism is the boogie man but not treason?

What taxes are not paid by undocumented immigrants?

It's not free.

My questions was. Is giving fee health care to non-Americans going to win back the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Carolina? Three new posts after my question and all of them trying to spin off to something off topic from the Democrat debates. #-o

I didn't see that part but I don't think I agree with it, strategically, as a way of holding back "improper," as the law actually refers to it, immigration. Emergency, maybe, but not regular or elective care.

And I think they're all totally wrong on trashing Obamacare for Medicare-for-all. That won't happen in the next term but opt-in Medicare is do-able and it has very high support, even with Republicans.

I don't agree with some of her ideas - especially the wealth tax - but Warren's campaigning has impressed the hell out of me. Just one idea after another and she's been very positive throughout.

Let's rephrase it - How is the *perception* of giving free health care to non-Americans going to win back the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and North Carolina?

Something else to consider is that nothing will get done, sensible or not, if Democrats don't win the Senate and six of the candidates are Senators. I don't know how many are up for re-election, but who's in the pipeline to replace them if they are? And then what happens to the state houses after that? Democrats are very lacking in a big-picture, "Karl Rove" kind of strategy.

It is not a policy that moderate Democrats and Republicans would support. I question that underlining idea that these moderates will embrace Trump because the D's moved to far left. I assume moderates are equally aware of the radicals on the right also.

Progressives forget that not even all Democrats are Progressive, not even in the bluest states. Even less in the swing states. And they forget about the power of Fox News, Republican talking points and "SOLICALISM!" And they still seem clueless about the Rust Belt.

Kamala Harris did what she did for over two decades--act as a prosecuting attorney and DA.

Biden was not prepared to defend his record. And even worse, he doesn't seem to be prepared to simply say "I was wrong." If he doesn't, his anti-busing stance and Anita Hill hearing will dog him throughout the primaries, and continue to chip away at his support.

Kamala Harris represents Trump's worse nightmare--a prosecuting attorney.

Mayor Pete was as sharp as always. When confronted with one of his failures, went the opposite way that Biden did. He admitted his failure. Didn't try to rationalize or sidestep. Overall he just continues to be wicked smaht.

I'm surprised Maryanne Whats-her-name didn't try to get everyone to hold hands and put out positive healing vibes.
This country of the United States was not built by those who waited and rested and wished to look behind them.---JFK
