ELECTION 2020
Re: ELECTION 2020
I don't know if there are any conservatives on this long thread - just read the last two pages or so.
Both sides should be interested in the link below, which IMO outlines the uniqueness of this election, and accurately states what each side represents in this unprecedented time.
I'm ready for the howls!!!

Re: ELECTION 2020
Ok, I lasted 49 seconds. 1st clue was "Claremont Institute," 2nd was "the Democratic Party has been taken over by its radical left wing."
Just so I don't set off the word censor, I'll say "nonsense." If they're so radical why did they nominate the most moderate of 18 or so candidates?
As for the Claremont Institute, jeez, even lifelong Republicans think they're nutjobs.
Don't look at me, I just work here.
Re: ELECTION 2020
Geez you leftists are close minded. 49 seconds?
I don't know anything about the Claremont Institute. This was linked to me and I listened to what the guy said. I do believe this is an unprecedented election. Your presidential candidate, Kamala Harris, seems to me to be a socialist in the Bernie mode. Could be wrong. But that green new deal is a scary concept.
Biden is a shell of himself and will do as he's told (probably by Harris!). And when he was on his game, I thought he was dimwitted. Just a life long politician who hasn't had to meet a payroll in decades, if ever. 90% of them on both sides of the aisle make me nauseous. Life long power mongers who think they know how to run the private sector.

Re: ELECTION 2020
Says it all.
Your opinions of Biden and Harris are exactly that......your opinions.
Even if they are as bad as you claim (which they are not) I have the opinion that they could go into their respective offices and sleep all day and do less damage than Trump does when he is awake.
See how that works?
Stay loose, and be a little afraid.
Re: ELECTION 2020
One thing I think any open minded person should do is consider the argument, not the source. "Says it all" - what says it all? That I read someone's take on the coming election without prejudice?
This discussion would be maybe a little productive if we'd stop judging each other's motives, stop the name calling and vitriol, and argued the merits. For example, I'm looking into John Q's assertion about Thomas being just a politician, not a judge. I want to view the pros and cons of his decisions in light of making law or interpreting it.
A liberal listens, considers, discerns. I'm liberal minded that way. Wabash's ideology is leftist, not liberal. And it's close-minded. Lumps groups, doesn't argue merit. Doesn't even try to understand where people are coming from.
Government is a bad thing. It needs to be kept small. I believe this. I also believe the left side thinks government is good, and can take care of us. They are different viewpoints and the viewpoints should be argued respectfully and with an eye on history - what has worked and what hasn't for the freedom of people.
I may have a leg up on most in this regard because of my disdain, bordering on hatred, for the vast majority of life long politicians on BOTH sides of the aisle. I don't think you guys on the dem side think that's genuine, but I can't do anything about that, as I've said, other than to tell you I haven't voted for a republican presidential candidate before Trump, all the way back to Reagan.

Re: ELECTION 2020
Yet you support the party that expands government when it has the ability to do just the opposite. Government spending (as a percent of GDP) expands at much higher rates during GOP administrations. That has been the case since at least when Reagan was president.ventura wrote: ↑Wed Oct 14, 2020 10:04 am Government is a bad thing. It needs to be kept small. I believe this. We know conservatives put forth the rhetoric of freedom. But they do just the opposite. The most recent being the PATRIOT (Providing Appropriate Tools to Restrict, Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism) Act being a prime example.
Oh the irony!!

Re: ELECTION 2020
I strongly agree with Wabash's Patriot Act comment. That's why I made the captioned comment. I think Trump actually pressed to nonrenew at least part of it - I think it had something to do with the Russia witch hunt, which you won't be surprised I think is aptly named.
And if I thought you were for a more limited government, Wabash, we'd get along better. Yes - Trump's spending has been a BIG disappointment to me. Very deflated about that. I just don't think the dems would have spent less in the last 3+ years. Could be wrong. And per the speech from Claremont I linked, there are some very big fish frying this election cycle. So I'm going Trump again.
Re: ELECTION 2020
History shows that you would have been wrong.
I believe Dems would have spent less.
See how that works?

Re: ELECTION 2020
Newsweek is reporting;
I still believe the crazy train is just pulling out of the station. On Tuesday, Trump retweeted a post from a since suspended account that suggested former President Barack Obama and his Vice President Joe Biden colluded to stage the killing of the 9/11 mastermind with Iran.
"Hiden Biden and Obama may have had Seal Team 6 killed! EXPLOSIVE: CIA Whistleblower Exposes Biden's Alleged Role with the Deaths of Seal Team- Claims to have Documented Proof. RETWEET!!!" the tweet read.
The conspiracy theory, which was pushed by QAnon supporters, claims Bin Laden's body double was actually killed in the raid and that Biden then ordered a Navy Seal helicopter be shot down in order to stop the "truth" from coming out.
As noted by The Daily Beast, Trump's retweet of the outlandish claims marks "what is perhaps the president's strangest brush yet with far-right conspiracy theories."

Re: ELECTION 2020
That was how long it took him to get to his first blatant falsehood. If you have to lie to support your position you lose me.
Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not much of a "leftist." I am registered as a Democrat but that's only because when the Republican Party left me independents didn't get to vote in the primaries and I haven't bothered to change it. I actually think Progressives are as misguided as Trumpists are.
* And the Claremont Institute isn't even in Claremont. But I guess "The Upland, across the street from the Walmart Institute" doesn't have the same panache.

The law is clear that a person can take another individual's ballot. A box is not a person.

I'm really worried about either side trying to claim fraud. With the deep polarization of our society and the eruption of riots these past months, this is a powder keg.
We can go to liquor and grocery stores in COVID. Legitimate voting is critical, and I fear each side is going to accuse the other of cheating. Vote harvesting encourages cheating on both sides. I'm not playing partisan politics with this comment. I'm really worried about some form of civil war breaking out after this election, and erring on the side of caution with legitimacy of the vote should be a priority.
