Antonovich proposes fly-away service to increase passenger convenience.
To help provide travelers with a convenient, reliable and inexpensive alternative to commuting to LAX, Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich has directed the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works to investigate the feasibility of developing a dedicated bus service to connect LA/Palmdale Airport to the Santa Clarita Valley.
Fashioned after the successful LAX “FlyAway” service administered by Los Angeles World Airports, the mission of the Palmdale Airport service is to provide a convenient transit alternative for passengers in the Santa Clarita Valley, the San Fernando Valley and other communities.
In conjunction with the court-mandated directive to regionalize air service, Los Angeles World Airports has allocated nearly $1 million to support the first phase of air service provided by United Airlines currently connecting Palmdale to San Francisco, an international hub – on twice daily flights. A Flyaway to L.A./Palmdale airport from the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys would increase passenger usage by providing convenient transportation.
“L.A./Palmdale Airport is the future economic hub of the high desert in the heart of the fastest-growing area in California and will generate future development, interstate commerce, job creation and an estimated $65 million dollars in economic benefit to the community,” added Antonovich. “A dedicated bus service will be a vital component in the success of L.A./Palmdale Airport.”
Antonovich is also seeking to develop a collaborative partnership for the Flyaway service between local transit agencies, United Airlines, the Los Angeles World Airport Authority and Los Angeles County .
