Newport is embarrassingly bad. Their offense is non existent. The o line does not block. Their poor QB got destroyed and ended up breaking his clavicle. The new coach will not last. The program is bare at all levels. It’s a very side time for a once proud program. I am a Cdm guy but it sucks to see how far NH has fallen. The Battle of the Bay game last night had zero energy, unlike years in the past. NH never had a chance and they don’t for at least 4 more years.

Congrats on your dominance. From Maxpreps Scoretracker below, I noticed your starting QB was still throwing the ball leading by 40 late in the 3rd. Is this accurate?

If anyone is interested, if Corona del Mar and Los Alamitos both win next weekend, there will be no need for a coin flip to determine the league's #1 playoff representative. Here's the relevant text from the CIF's 2018 Playoff Bulletin:

NOTE: (11-Man Football) If two or three automatic entry teams from the same league are tied at the end of league competition, and are in different playoff divisions, they may all carry the same designation into their respective playoff division. For example, if School A and School B tie for their league’s championship, and are in different playoff divisions, they can both be designated as League #1 in their respective playoff divisions.

So both schools should go into the playoffs as league champions and receive a first round home game.

Pretty sure that was known, and played the determining role, at the time of the decision.

Yea too bad if that was the determining factor, instead of the fact playing football=fun and that most of the seniors on both teams only have a few tackle football games left in their lifetimes... Adults can sure screw things up

Navin, the decision may have actually added more games to the careers of those seniors.

Thank you again MDDad. This "factor" weighed heavily as that alone was more important to two playoff coaches facing the consequence of hosting a lower seed at HOME or possibly going on the road as a non league champion.

It just worked out as too easy an alternative. It is the rules. They made decisions with this weighing in.....

Yea maybe, but the decision definitely robbed them of the chance to fight it out for a league championship on the field...

I agree. As SK80 said, it seems like the unwillingness of either side to give an inch indicates they were both happy going into their respective playoffs as a league #1.

Well, call me naive, but deciding whether to finish an amateur athletic contest based on the fine print of the rules smells really bad... Especially when that decision could negatively affect another league member getting a chance to play for a league championship.

Edison and Los Al will decide it on the field on Friday at Cerritos. If HB pulls an upset of CDM, and Edison beats Los Al, Edison wins the league.

Come on, MDDad, That's too reasonable for some and besides, not finishing the game is a great character builder for impressionable kids in later life.

Edison is NOT beating Los Al

TWO playoff coaches? One coach had his team at the school on Sat at 9 am for their pregame meal, school personnel preparing the locker room for a visiting team, and the boosters readying concessions, etc for 1 pm game on a field that CIF approved...again.

I'm guessing whatever loophole CIF has that allows a visiting team veto power on a host team's field in cases like this will be closed going forward. My guess is no one had anticipated this circumstance. Let's face it, no one on this board has seen such an occurrence before.

While perhaps no one on this board had experienced that occurrence before, there were several dozen other schools that experienced it that same night. Somehow they all managed to reschedule at a time that was acceptable to both schools. In cases like this both sides have to be willing to compromise and be inconvenienced, and it appears that in this case, neither side was willing because the results of tying for a league championship had no downside.

Venue issue. CDM refused to play at Los Al HS. Los Al didn't want to pay a few thousand between transport costs and split venue rental to play in an empty stadium.
