Re: Pipeline of players
I’m not sure there was ever a time during Rollo and Dave Money’s tenure that a star QB didn’t want to come to MD. Prior to Barkley they had Colt Brennan and Matt Leinert. The pipeline of QBs has been pretty steady going back to Danny Oneil. My all time favorite is Billy Blanton.

Yes, Danny O'Neil, Matt Leinert were there before Barkley. MD QB's pipeline has been there much longer .
Agree, Billy Blanton was the most fun to watch.

Re: Pipeline of players
I believe when Matt Barkley started HS at MD, that also marked a turning point in MD becoming a QB factory again,
In Rollinson and Money's 16 years before Barkley arrived, every Mater Dei quarterback except one went on to play in college. I'm not sure any other county school can match that record, so it's not like the school ever stopped being a quarterback factory.

Re: Pipeline of players
ya, even with a lot of success at Mission Viejo under Bob Johnson, Mission Viejo was still never quite able to replace MD as being the top QB factory, most star QB's still wanted to play for MD, I even read an article about JT Daniels, in an interview with him, he said he had been committed to playing for MD as early as 5th grade.

by FatherSonHolyHldbcks HmmmmI still think he's too small and his body cannot take the punishment that NFL QB's have to endure

If he plays in the NFL he's gonna get hurt and there will be no MLB career.

Re: Pipeline of players
He's about Doug Flutie size, but that was a different era. If did make a roster, he would be the smallest QB in the league. At 5'10" how does he even see over the line?

I respect it. The NFL seems to seriously disagree though.
People made the same comments about Drew Brees and Russell Wilson and Baker Mayfield. Height matters less in today’s NFL at QB than ever before. And it’s not like the NFL evaluators don’t know his size. If you can play you can play, and they obviously think that he can play, AT THAT LEVEL.
LOL geez, don’t curse the kid. No one knows what will happen to him. I wish him the best; he’s fun to watch in both sports and represents himself well.
I’d probably choose baseball in his shoes, just given the already existing investment and financial upside. But it’s hard to ignore a realistic shot at being drafted as a 1st round, franchise QB with $20M+ guaranteed, and not having to wade through the minor leagues.
I think Kyler will be just fine either way. Good for him. He’s got a king’s choices right now. We should have Big Dave Uiagalelei make him a fresh graphic about how he’s “blessed to have options.”
Re: Pipeline of players
No ill will or bad juju towards Kyler. I feel bad for the kid, Sumlin really f'd up that situation and I'm glad Kyler escaped Sumlin's cesspool and did well at OU. He does have 1% problems and I hope he does well whatever he chooses.
But, IMHO he is not physically built for the NFL pounding.

Re: Pipeline of players
You know who’s pulling for Kyler Murray to choose football, be a 1st round pick and become an NFL star?

Who's "the NFL"? This guy?FatherSonHolyHldbcks wrote:The NFL seems to seriously disagree though.
Last month, an NFL general manager told ESPN's Adam Schefter: "I really believe he's a first-round pick, a late first, I really do."
No, really. Seriously. I really do. Did I say late?

No, seriously, I really do. Real late, though.
