Thread for the ongoing Kyler Murray draft discussion. What happens with KM could affect the evaluation of future slight-sized NFL QB prospects, including a certain highly-regarded Trinity League QB, if he turns out to be a star in college as expected.

Kyler Murray is not 5' 10"

Well, you were right about Kyler Murray for once. He's not 5' 10", he's 5' 10" and 1/8th.

It’s not the 1/8 of an inch that’s the difference, it’s the difference between KM’s actual height and the 5’8” or 5’9” that many slappys had speculated he would measure in at.

But his height was never going to be as much of a potential issue as his general bulk/size, and Kyler put that to bed by showing up at a rock solid 207 lbs.

Russell Wilson 2012 Combine:
5’10-5/8” 204lbs
Kyler Murray 2019 Combine:
5’10-1/8” 207lbs

NFL is not making that mistake again.

Kyler also put to rest any hand size questions with 9.5 inch mitts, bigger than many starting NFL QBs including Jared Goff (9.0) and Pat Mahomes (9.25).

New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton, coach of HOF 6’0” 209lb QB Drew Brees, on Kyler Murray as a prospect:

“Having seen 4 game tapes now in early exposure, you don’t feel his height being a deficiency when you watch him play. He’s explosive. He’s one of those players that, as Madden used to say, he was never it [in tag].

It’s so hard to rush him. Because he can flush to the right or left and make a play. You feel the poise that he plays with.

His hand size was 9 1/2; if it was in the 8s that would have been a little concerning. 9 is a threshold for us. His height was 5’10” and change, and ultimately ... his film is too good. When I say it’s too good, I mean, I really like him.

He’s gonna be comfortable playing quickly at this level and deservedly so. Just being around him and watching the early part of this [pre-draft] experience, I think he’s handled himself well.”

Asked if Kyler Murray is someone he would like to see stay out of the NFC South division:

“Absolutely ... baseball would be a great starting point.”

I'm hearing a LOT about this kid out here in Texas as he played HS ball at Allen, just one town over from where I live here in Collin County. They've been talking him up around these parts for quite awhile now. It's going to be real interesting to watch his career. A lot of QBs that looked real good in College didn't amount to much of anything in the NFL. Will he be the next hype to dwindle?

I have to admit, i hated on Bryce Young. Didn't see him as a prototypical USC QB. Thought he was just way too small. Wanted DJ over him (and still do but there's no shot USC can get him so I've moved on). But after watching more of him, and meeting his Dad at the various off season camps so far this year, I'm a believer. The kid can just throw the ball despite his size. And he;s a good kid.
