The Trinity League v. The United States of America

Postby RedPillWonderland » Sat Sep 07, 2019 3:27 pm

Next Friday night, the 3rd ranked team in the USA, Jason Negro’s St. John Bosco Braves, open this big money showcase bringing some significant revenue to its still-infant stadium by hosting an appetizer against the Good Counsel Falcons out of Olney, MD and the DC version of the Trinity Lg — the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference (WCAC — same league as DeMatha and St Johns).

On Saturday afternoon, Pat Harlow’s JSerra Lions face the defending Georgia 7A state champions, Atlanta-area Milton High School.

Then, when the lights come on Saturday night, two heavyweights step in the ring.

1 v. 2 in the NATION. The 2-time defending national champions battle another nationally-constructed superteam that has publicly stated they want the throne (IMG 2018, SFA 2019).

Mater Dei. Baltimore Saint Frances Academy.

Trinity v. The USA. SoCal v. Everybody. Uhhh ... let’s discuss? Lol

LETS GET IT ON BABYYY!!

Washington Post article on the other teams in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) colluding to forfeit all games against SFA in 2018, refusing to play due to alleged “safety concerns.”

The Panthers now are considered an independent MIAA team for 2019 and going forward, playing an entirely national schedule and none of their old local rivals.

I know I know, this makes some of you MD/Bosco haters salivate, this is what you’ve been saying, this is the solution blah blah blah lol

This makes a ton of sense, just have the National High School Football league, two conferences, four divisions, 16 games.

Why don't they just call it road ball and skip the "school" nonsense altogether?

Have not seen SFA play except for some YouTube clips against Miami Central. SFA has some big dudes, but, so does MD. Bryce has been locked in so far this season and against CC it appeared his longest throws were improvised scrambles. Ware-Hudson and CJ Williams look like Bru McCoy's in training. Add in Dixon, Epps and Zamora that's a difficult group to cover every play. Gauntlet schedule MD has this season nobody can say they have a bunch of cupcakes.

This St Frances Academy team is literally from all over the map, basically like an IMG North or a small college team in terms of coming together from various hometowns.

See below for a breakdown of where Biff Poggi — the multi-millionaire businessman, longtime SFA school board member, football program CEO, and co-head coach of the team — recruited his team from (reminder: SFA is located near downtown Baltimore, Maryland):

Starting with the offense:

QB:

So John Griffith - Linthicum MD (Baltimore area - started at QB for SFA in 2018 as a 9th grader)

RBs:

Sr Blake Corum - Rectortown VA (transferred to SFA from Pallotti HS in Laurel MD)

Jr Joe Bray - Chesapeake VA (transfer from Oscar C Smith HS)

WRs:

Sr LJ Robinson - Baltimore MD (4 yr SFA team member)

Sr Jahmal Banks - Bethesda MD/Arlington VA (Bishop OConnell (VA) HS transfer)

So Denylon Morrisette - Decatur GA (Atlanta) (transfer from Marietta (GA) HS)

So Lamar Patterson - Orlando FL (Kissimmee Liberty HS transfer)

Jr Isaiah Hardy - Baltimore MD (Milford Mill HS transfer)

So Ike White - Philadelphia PA (St Joes Prep HS transfer (July 2019))

TE:

Jr Joey Burns - Huntingtown MD (southern MD, 57 miles south of St Frances Academy - began HS at SFA)

OL:

LT Sr Michael Statham - Philadelphia PA (Imhotep Charter HS transfer)

LG Sr Micah Mazzucca - Philadelphia PA (Neumann Goretti HS transfer)

C Sr Tyler Thomas - Brandywine MD (transfer from Gwynn Park HS in Prince George’s County near DC, 50 miles from Baltimore)

RG Jr Delfin Castillo - Orlando FL (transfer from Kissimmee Osceola HS)

RT Sr Jakhi Green - Landover MD (PG County MD, 41 miles from SFA) (4 year St Frances team member)

Sounds a lot like Findlay Prep in basketball a few years ago.

Mater Dei has their hands full.

SFA defense is ridiculous.

Going to give MD everything they have but I'm not sure their offense can keep up.

I won't miss this one.

Regardless of whether you take offense to even the slightest implication that Bosco could be playing SFA on Saturday night instead of GC on Friday night, it just seems like they would WANT to.

It seems like, for Bosco Football, where (1) the public program mission statement is to compete annually for national titles (not just league, CIF, or state) and (2) they had another loaded 2019 team returning when they scheduled this — led by maybe the best player and prospect in program history (with of course MANY transfers coming to Bellflower after these games were set in January) — if ANYBODY is going to get matched up with a national powerhouse and fellow projected top-5 team like St Frances, ON BOSCO’S FIELD, it’s going to be BOSCO.

But I guess Jason Negro was ok with giving the prime time Saturday game against the best out of state opponent ... to his biggest rival?? At the very least, that’s a bit weird.

Who knows how these games are determined.

SJB may have wanted to avoid playing on Saturday in this case as they have a game the following Friday in Hawaii against Mililani.

They'll be traveling to Hawaii early in the week next week.

If Mater Dei goes unbeaten this season, a win over SFA would likely end up as the biggest out of state boost to their 2019 mythical national title resume.

Even if they finish as state champs with a loss along the way (similar to last season), a win over SFA could put them in the national title conversation (again).

SJB’s non league schedule is shaping up to be very weak — no disrespect to “national #5” DeMatha (MaxPreps computer poll whatcha doin? lol), or Liberty and Don Bosco Prep (who are a combined 0-5). Given SJB had to do a national social media broadcast to try to get games, and allegedly had some teams agree and back out, it seems like the Braves wouldn’t have wanted to give Mater Dei (of all teams) this type of huge opportunity to beat SFA and move into an unquestioned early #1 position. Plus, a Mater Dei loss wouldn’t help Bosco’s case either, given MD is without question the best opponent on their schedule.

Since no one here likely knows what truly went on and how these national opponents were distributed to the TL teams when this was set up, it’s certainly interesting to discuss.

Its been said that the same showcase will happen again next year with new opponents (potentially hosted by MD), so maybe MD agreed they would take SFA this year if they could take the second or third best national opponent in 2020, like Bosco did this year.

good info redpill.

I remember a few years ago it was Bosco who was traveling east to play St. Johns and STA while MD was playing what some called a "cupcake" schedule.

I see this SFA game vs MD as another classic like MD vs IMG. I'm kinda surprised though didn't CIF say you can't play OOS teams unless the team competes for their state league/championship? I thought SFA was essentially shunned by the other league teams who would not play them anymore since they openly recruit? I don't have all the details on the exact situation, but, seems like SFA is the same as IMG? --:--
