True story I spoke with former Poly asst. coach TJ Houshmanzadeh about this very subject at the MD-Poly playoff game in 2017 and he said LBUSD had totally screwed their program, created an unfair playing field for Long Beach public schools trying to compete at the highest level, and basically handed a bunch of kids over to the private schools that traditionally would have come to LBP.
They are even losing kids to Jordan, Millikan and Wilson that live in Long Beach or Signal Hill and want to come to Poly, but aren’t allowed to due to district rules.
It’s the #1 reason Antonio Pierce and staff left after that season (other than AP getting a great opportunity at ASU with Herm Edwards and becoming their ace LA area recruiter, of course).
