Mater Dei v St John Bosco - Trinity League Super Bowl 2019

Post by RedPillWonderland » Fri Oct 18, 2019 9:11 pm

We’ve made it to Armageddon Week.

MD is the unanimous #1 team in the nation at 8-0, already being compared to the greatest HS teams in history, including the 2017 Monarchs.

Host Bosco is also 8-0, #2 in the nation and out for revenge, having lost 4 of 6 to MD, including the last two CIF title games.

Bryce Young v DJ Uiagalelei, maybe the greatest matchup of HS QBs in history.

1 v 2 (again). Jason Negro v Bruce Rollinson. Monarchs v Braves. OC Money v LA Money lol

Let’s go.

Bosco started selling tickets for the Mater Dei game (“Bosco fans only”) before their 63-6 win over OLu was even complete, posting a GoFan link via Twitter that didn’t even allow you to finish the purchase.

The hype is at fever pitch, UNPRECEDENTED LEVELS LOL

Sondy is apparently not counting this week’s games as real actual wins for MD/SJB

I will give the 10.

Waiting for the real line to post. I have a feeling it’s going to be way too low

I always forget there are real, actual adults in Vegas and elsewhere who set lines for high school football games involving teens, not the pretend “lines” that I refer to lol

Bosco having more trouble with these MD game ticket links than they did with the bathroom install at their new stadium lol

Walk past the locker room and walk about 20 yards and it will be to the left. Just follow the barrier they set up to keep the players and fans apart from each other.

There are none in the stadium, only the Port O Pots located on the closed end of the visitor side.

There are some old fashioned, brick and mortar bathrooms if you exit the stadium on the Bosco side, past the concession area plaza and gate entrance, either in the basketball gym hallway next to the Bosco team locker room (a little musty in there fair warning lol), or along a walkway to the main school building.

But if you’re trying to find a toilet and sink inside the stadium, it ain’t there for you. The guys at the Trinity Classic games seemed ok with the Port O Pots, but the women were audibly pissed throughout the day lol

Man! - how bogus is that - maybe no one thought about them or there wasn't enough money
to have them built in the stadium BUT it's a basic amenity in pretty much all public high school
stadiums, even most of the older high school stadiums have them in the stadium itself...

Opinion here from Cal-Hi Sports that the loser of this one should stay in top 2 nationally regardless

It should be a great game. Bosco's twitter was showing only 50 tickets left earlier tonight.

Bryce has had alligator blood this season. If the defense has great coverage then he uses his legs. Pressure him and he scrambles to run, shuttle pass or throw a dart 30 yards down the field. load the box and he throws darts all over the field.

Hell, how many times has MD had to punt this year?

MD's defense has been rolling all year. Yea there have been a few times a coverage is blown or someone just gets beat by a great throw, but, overall the D has been shut down.

Unlike last season this MD team seems to have less distractions. They seem more focused and less penalties.

But, i'm sure both teams have been working on schemes all year for this game and we will see who can execute better under the friday night lights. :D

Hopefully Levasa can play, but, he did come out twice against SM where it looked like he tweaked his ankle/leg. As RPW said Zamora seems like he might be out for the season with a leg injury. Not sure about the CJ

I like having a big HS football game like this on a HS campus, and there is NO WAY Bosco was giving up the opportunity to host. But wow, considering the hype, interest and demand in a metro area of almost 20 million people, with only 5k seats in the stadium ... maybe this one should’ve been moved to a bigger venue?

Even for the league game at the Bowl last year, that was at what I believe is a 9k capacity venue.

Schedules and rental fees and other issues probably would have nixed a move even if it was considered in the summer (which it wasn’t), but somewhere like Cerritos or The Vet are in the relative area and would have had double the capacity at least, and SJB could have still taken all the gate.

But those 5-7k extra seat sales, concessions and parking fees probably aren’t worth as much to Monty McDermott and Jason Negro as the sheer accumulation of CLOUT, and eyeballs focused on Bosco, all gained from hosting this game on campus. And what should be an awesome atmosphere for both teams. Without a doubt will be the biggest single event ever hosted by the school (topping the TL Classic earlier this year). Maybe the biggest event ever in the City of Bellflower lol

Just putting it out there, just a thought, go easy folks lol

(Side note: is Negro really running the Bosco Football Twitter account from his house in HB? Or is that one of the brothers)

Saw this quote below from the Baltimore Ravens D Coord this week about prepping to play Russell Wilson; how it’s like playing against Steph Curry (kills you no matter what you do on defense). It’s exactly why I call #9 the High School Russ Wilson. He’s a Magician.

Chris King and Bosco’s biggest defensive success in the regular season game last year was found in bringing pressure on Bryce, who uncharacteristically hesitated v. the blitz and struggled with Kourt Williams and company being in his face that night.

Good luck trying that this year.

St Frances Academy coach Henry Russell was asked by an Alabama reporter for his comments on playing against Bryce Young and trying to pressure him:

Moments after receiving the shotgun snap, Bryce Young had a St. Frances linebacker charging towards him and closing in quickly.

It was a blitz from the Maryland school that worked perfectly. The linebacker was left unaccounted for and ran untouched through the middle of Young’s offensive line.

Any hesitation from Young and it would have been a sack.

Instead, it ended up being one of the first plays from Young that left St. Frances coaches looking on from the sideline in disbelief during that Sept. 14 matchup between two of the nation’s top high school football programs.

“The guy came unblocked and just drilled him and he still put the ball right on the money and completed the ball over the middle and they get the ball at the 1-yard line,” St. Frances co-head coach Henry Russell said. “That play was very special. It was like, ‘Holy crap. What are we supposed to do to stop this kid?’”

Being around top prospects is nothing new for Russell, who has coached several former and current Alabama players.

But after seeing Young — and after watching him account for 352 yards and four touchdowns during Mater Dei’s 34-18 win over his team — Russell had some lofty praise for the Crimson Tide’s new quarterback commit from California.

“Honestly, he’s probably the best high school quarterback I’ve seen in person,” said Russell, who coached in the 2018 Under Armour All-American game. “He’s electric. The poise he had and the control over the game he had for a high school kid, I haven’t seen that before. He’s special. He’s special. ... The kid made a lot of plays against us, more plays than anyone else has in a long time.”

a game of this magnitude deserves to be played in a bigger stadium, such as the Home Depot Center, or Veterans Stadium in Long Beach
