Copa Mundial de la FIFA!

Post by John Q. Public »

The Foreign Babe's mom got me hooked on watching the World Cup. In Spanish. I don't understand a word of it other than "GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!" She didn't either but that's beside the point. Their announcers are so much better than the American ones it doesn't matter if you can understand them. :mex:

The first game is Ecuador and the host team, Qatar. 2-0 Ecuador in the second half right now. Manana es Estados Unidos y Gales (Wales) at noon. (Hey, it's the first round)

On Galavision and Fox Sports 1.

And the main stadium looks like a giant vagina. Maybe on purpose. It was designed by a woman for a tournament in Qatar. Make up your own conspiracy theory.

Crazy games in the first round. The brackets are designed to eliminate the weak teams right away but the weak teams aren't cooperating. Senegal held the Netherlands scoreless until a minute or so before the end of regulation time, Saudi Arabia beat Argentina 2-1, as did Japan over Germany. Denmark and Tunisia and Morocco and Croatia played to 0-0 ties.

It's not supposed to work that way.

It's been a whole tournament of upsets, the biggest being Morocco conquering the Iberian Peninsula - Spain on Tuesday and Portugal today (and sending Ronaldo off crying :giggle: ). Wednesday they continue their quest to recreate the 8th century by taking on France in the semis. History says they'll lose. Well, that and France having a really good team.

Tuesday, Argentina and Croatia. I'm going with Croatia. They're good. But so is Argentina. It's going to be a nail biter.

They want to have a victory parade in Buenos Aires but they aren't sure how they can because all the roads are full of people.
