First off I want to say that I have no clue about the sport of golf. I was reading this article in OCVarsity and it said that Cantlay was the best high school golfer in Orange County's history. Now, we all know about Tiger Woods. Has Cantlay surpassed Tiger in that regard?

He didn't receive as many awards and accolades as Woods, but the quality of competition Cantlay faced is much greater today than it was twenty years ago. Also, Tiger woods is a complete jerk.

But Tiger wasn't a complete jerk 20 years ago so Cantlay has a lot of time to catch up

He's always been a club-throwing crybaby. The guy can play some golf, but he's a POS human being.

He was way nicer to me when we played against him then every private school country club kid was. He might nit be the best human now but he was a really nice high school kid.

Stanford changed him for the worse. That's the only explanation.

I was lead to believe when Tiger's dad was around he was an amazing person...Once he passed Tiger descended into the depravity that was his downfall...No?

Maybe. He always seemed like a poor sport and a crybaby to me. If things weren't going his way, he had a fit.

Patrick Cantlay was a truly exceptional golfer as a high school kid. However, after what Beau Hossler did at the U.S. Open, I'm not even sure Cantlay is the best county golfer of the last four years.

An impressive performance, no doubt, but he has a pretty long way to go to surpass Cantlay.

God no, there was some deep issues that Tiger had to grow up with. They are family issues and are really not our business. I am sure many of us wouldn't want certain things that have gone on in our lives public fuel for public discussion. This whole question is kind of lame if you ask me.

Patrick is a good player(obviously) but to suggest he is better than Tiger was(in high school) is utter non-sense. Where do people get off even suggesting this crap?

Competition level and evolution of the game.

Only four or five golfers in history have even shot a better single-round score than Cantlay, who holds the all-time amateur record. That is, if you don't count Kim Jong Il's score of 38 under par.

Wiki states Tiger won back to back to back, while Cantley is winless in the US Amatuer.

He was at Stanford when he won all three of those. Cantlay might be more decorated as a collegiate athlete, though. He won just about every player of the year award there is and holds the record for longest run being ranked as the #1 amateur in the world.

Interesting, they both had football coaches as high school golf coaches and came from Northwest Orange County(Cypress and Los Al). I think the big difference when you compare them is what were there real goals Cantalay most likely wanted to win state do really well in college and turn pro. Tiger wanted to win 18 plus majors and all the tournaments he could along the way. His high school schedule took a back seat to those goals, although remember, he was OC golfer of the year as a freshman in high school He was the youngest US Junior Ametuer champ at the time and only player to win 3 of them, he 15 when he played in his first PGA event and several golfing publications named him the top junior in the world while in high school!

Cantalay is doing fine, was great in high school, but really, it is not even close guys!

BTW, how big of a horrible AD can you be when Tigers HS coach tells you to shove it because you tried to screw him and athletics over at Rosary? You think Servite took a big step or not when they got rid of of Ickes!
