Re: Donald Sterling needs to go
What could he possibly hope to gain by fighting this in court? By the time the lawyers took their's while the team slid downhill in disrepair to get what...much less money than he could have received in the near term ? He gets what...head aches, unwanted publicity, staggering losses whilst the fight goes on, and if he wins, who will go to his games or buy his team gear...who will sponsor the team...who will care about it?. There isn't a player on the team who would play for him, and Doc Rivers would be gone in a heartbeat. Nothing to gain in the courtroom, IMO.

Paul, didn't Doc Rivers and Chris Paul just sign giant contracts from a known racist? Donald Sterling's previous racist comments were much worse and didn't seem to have as much impact so not sure I agree with your statement. However, that is the way to deal with Sterling, have no black players play for the Clippers and they wouldn't win 5 games which would equal no fans and a huge drop in value.

RF, could you explain this reference just so we can be clear about it...."From pasty white Kareem Abdul Jabbar."

Omar's quote back on page 2 of this thread, "the pasty-white inability to process the irony and impact of his racism"
Just because some of us express concern about fining Sterling $2.5 million and taking his property rights for something he said in his own home doesn't make us racist or insensitive to racist comments. In a free society you should be able to make racist remarks in private without being fined and losing your property rights. Because the alternative is worse

It used to be that a bunch of guys could sit around in someone's den, watch a game over a few beers, and have one them say, "So did you hear the one about the white guy, the black guy and the Mexican who walk into this bar . . ."
I guess those days are gone for good.

Ah, the NSA tie-in, perfect! You got the attribution wrong, though, that was a quote from the fragile-eggshell male ego Kareem
Okay, I see were this is coming from, all you poor guys who have ever been wronged by an ungrateful lover or have junk hidden in your closets can stand down now. We're just getting started...lawyers and PR firms are already lining up like giggling debutantes at a cotillion. Talk shows, testimonials, product endorsements, reality shows..."Lifestyles of the Rich and Racist", anyone? It could air after Duck Dynasty...

Ppaul, I have no idea why he'd fight it but I have a feeling he's just that kind of guy. And it's possible he could win, simply on constitutional grounds (First and Fourth Amendments). He didn't do anything illegal, unless she's an employee.

Just make every employer hire to match the community there in. So the LA King, LA Lakers and LA Dodgers must be split 50/50 by gender. 45% hispanic 35% white and 20% black. 10% gay 89% straight 1% transgender.
So if your a transgender mix race person who can play a game your rich!
But only if you want it to be fair

Taken from a very good Op-Ed in Time Magazine. Kareem calls us all out.RedFred wrote:"Didn't we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen's privacy in such an un-American way..? Thanks for the link JQ, when you have that it's easy to see how someone might cherrypick an isolated quote to give the wrong impression of the author's view...the exact opposite impression, in fact.

Re: Donald Sterling needs to go
I think you were wanting to get that impression. Kareem is a wise man. I'd never expect him to take Sterling's side but I would expect him to look at the whole picture.

Re: Donald Sterling needs to go
a whole new "industry" has been created. guy with google glasses surreptitiously "interviewing" others while BS-ing with them around the water cooler. next thing you know, he'd posting to social media and straight-up ruins someone's career/life. what wouldn't fly in a courtroom, is wreaking havoc in the court of public opinion. i mean, really, don't most people spout nonsense - gossip, opinion, off-color humor, etc. - in the privacy of our own home/conversations that we'd rather "others" not hear, ESPECIALLY THE TARGET OF SAID NONSENSE? this dude is a DB for sure, but the hyporcisy in this instance is laughable.
