Happy 50th birthday to Ford's Mustang

Post by Parrotpaul »

Any gear head older than 50 can regale listeners about Steve McQueen's mighty 1968 390 Mustang GT and the outrageous car chase in Bullitt, but here is an all-wheel drive full performance 1965 Mustang that makes 850 HP doing the wild-thing through the streets of LA....all the familiar "filming" areas are here, and the car and the super quality HD video are worth the 12 minute watch....full screen and speakers are a must. Move over Frank Bullitt...Ken Block has arrived...and JQP...if this intro and linking isn't what you want, please feel free to make adjustments.

You will need to scroll down a bit for the video....

Happy 50th birthday Ford Mustang. For all of the hoopla, commemorative car shows, and even the launch of the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang—nothing honors your hot rod legacy better than the hooniganism in Ken Block’s Gymkhana 7 video.

If you haven’t watched the YouTube video yet do so immediately—The Ken Block Gymkhana 7 video has done the impossible and given Steve McQueen’s famous Mustang movie clip a run for its money.

My parents bought a so-called "64 and a half" Mustang in 1964. They gave it to my sister as a graduation gift in 1972. At the time the car was nothing special. They drove it for a few years and sold it for a few hundred bucks.

Later on this really irritated me. First, the car became a collector's item and became very valuable. Second, did I get a car for graduation? Nooooooo!

I went home to Maine on leave in 1965 and rented a Mustang when I landed in Boston. Nope nothing special, but it was fun to drive.

No you won't. It's on YouTube. Simple.

Do these people get their tires for free or what? Kierkegaard would have appreciated the doughnuts around the doughnut shop.

I know how you feel, Fordy. My parents sold their '57 Chevy wagon for $50 when I was off "defending my country" so to speak.

I think what amazes me most about the first Mustangs is that there are still so many of them on the road. I'm not seeing as many Falcons these days, but it was a heckuva durable platform.

And p.s. I don't know how you copied the link but Hot Rod did something really slick with it. They put a "nofollow" attribute on it, which absolves them (and us) from Google's link spamming rule. I wouldn't be so down on links if that was the norm.
Don't look at me, I just work here.
