24 Things That Require a Photo ID

Postby Professor Fate » Thu Dec 28, 2017 3:53 pm

Voter-ID laws continue to get a lot of attention, and proponents of the law are being drowned out by opponents claiming the laws discriminate against certain voters.

Rather than getting IDs to the people who are supposedly disenfranchised, opponents spend their efforts trying to end the laws, even though polls consistently show overwhelming majorities of voters approve of the laws.

Below are just some of the examples of things you need to prove your identity for:

1. Alcohol

2. Cigarettes

3. Opening a bank account

4. Apply for food stamps

5. Apply for welfare

6. Apply for Medicaid/Social Security

7. Apply for unemployment or a job

8. Rent/buy a house, apply for a mortgage

9. Drive/buy/rent a car

10. Get on an airplane

11. Get married

12. Purchase a gun

13. Adopt a pet

14. Rent a hotel room

15. Apply for a hunting license

16. Apply for a fishing license

17. Buy a cell phone

18. Visit a casino

19. Pick up a prescription

20. Hold a rally or protest

21. Blood donations

22. Buy an "M" rated video game

23. Purchase nail polish at CVS

24. Purchase certain cold medicines

But not to vote? --:-- ](*,)

Well, obviously we have giant butterflies in CA. They's climbin' in your windows, They's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to steal 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your stars, and hide your coaches cause they're grabin' everybody out here.

I got some free time around the holidays so......

Address the evidence that shows that these laws prevent more citizens from voting in comparison to the amount of documented cases of voter fraud.

Address the claims that Trump actually won the popular vote and illegal voting is the catalyst for his new commission.

Was buying nail polish guaranteed by the Constitution?

I haven't done some of those things in a long time, but I see seven easy ones that you don't have to verify your identity to do.

Those are easy, Broman.

1. Is false

2. I don't think he did. (Although I do believe there were thousands of illegal voters in California).

It may be different in different states, but okay, "Seventeen things that require a photo ID."

Is that all? Don't you want me to find you a contractor, get a few quotes, set up a meeting for Friday?

Do your own research. Vice President Pence's commission is doing mine.

When voter IDs don't turn the dismal tide in Republicans' favor can microchip implants and DNA tests be far behind? Brings to mind a simpler time when it was just rich white men...sigh

Ya know, looking back at that list, I only see a few that I either know or imagine you'd have to show ID to verify your identity for - apply for a job, drive or rent a car, get on an airplane, purchase a gun (legally) or buy cold meds. I don't remember on adopting a pet, applying for a mortgage or blood donations and I know nothing about getting married, applying for a hunting or fishing license or holding a rally. Opening a bank account, applying for food stamps, Medicaid, Social Security and unemployment can all be done online or over the phone. And once you've registered for food stamps, unemployment and Medicaid, you're pretty much on welfare, so I'll call it redundant.

We're down to 11, tops.

Are you suggesting you shouldn't need to show an ID for buying guns or renting a car?

A few points.

1. You cited no polls.

2. Your Constitutional rights, and mine, are not subject to approval by a majority of citizens, so your claims about polls are moot.

3. Some of the opponents of these laws sit on the Supreme Court, so "ending" the laws is a perfectly reasonable response.

Strip club... we're at 12. If you need an ID to see boobs you should need one to vote. The logic is flawless.

We can dance around this issue all we want. But voting is one of the two most critical civic responsibilities of a citizen (along with serving on a jury). If Charles Manson can cast a ballot by walking up to a voter table, telling the attendant he's Charlize Theron from next door, and the attendant says, "OK, that's good enough for me", then there's something wrong with the system.

I'd say there's something wrong with the attendant.

Or he's just doing his job, not questioning identity. If anything, the guy is a patriot.

I've never volunteered, but I'd think common sense would be one of the requirements.

It's not a requirement for congress or the oval office? Why would we expect more from voting venue attendants?

Two more things that I had to show photo ID for:

Check into a hospital

Pay anything by check

1. Americans' Support for Election Law Policies, by Party
Do you favor or oppose each of the following election law policies? (% Favor)
Early voting/Photo ID requirement/Automatic voter registration

Republicans 74% 95% 51%
Independents 80% 83% 58%
Democrats 85% 63% 80%
GALLUP, AUG. 15-16, 2016

2. Voting is a constitutional right; voting without ID is not.

3. And I'll bet there are supporters of voter ID laws there also.
