The Register’s Orange County defensive football player of the week:

Name: Luke Fisher

School: Corona del Mar

Position: LB

Year: Senior

Noteworthy: He had seven tackles and a sack for the Sea Kings in their 35-0 win over Lakewood. Fisher, a senior team captain, also plays running back. He leads the team in tackles with 22. “He has among the best work ethic of any kid I’ve coached,” Corona del Mar coach Dan O’Shea said. “His attention to detail on scheme and technique is unprecedented.” The win over Lakewood was the third in a row for Corona del Mar and the third consecutive game the Sea Kings have limited their opponent to six or fewer points. Corona del Mar plays at San Clemente on Friday.

Also on note: Junior DE JJ Rottler 6'5" 200 a converted basketball player is starting to look real good coming off the end.

Congrats to all of the kids who get mentioned other than just the D1 kids. Love that the staff at the register do that.

Tony it is great and doesn’t always have to involve the “best” players in the recognition, in any division a player can have a great game. CDM defense has been doing well of late and a shut out with 7 tackles by Fisher got him the recognition.

Tough break for Edison QB Angelovic. Sorry to hear about his injury. Broken collarbone. The tweet makes it sound like maybe he could return later in the season? Hang in there kid. Get well soon, and continue your playing career.

Well, obviously we have giant butterflies in CA. They's climbin' in your windows, They's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to steal 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your stars, and hide your coaches cause they're grabin' everybody out here.

Cdm did not play well tonight and they survived. They showed a lot of heart at the end of that game to come back and win the way they did. I think Cdm is AT LEAST 10-14 points better than SC. Cdm fumbled 2x inside SC’s red zone, turned the ball over on downs 1x inside the red zone, had a blocked punt, and a running into the kicker penalty that led to 7 points. If Cdm cleans these things up I think they have a shot at Los Al. I think Cdm beats Edison handily now that Edison is down a QB. D4 is getting interesting with a Villa Park win over Servite. I think Cdm and VP are on a path to meet each other in the D4 finals. That would be a great game!

Oh yeah, Cdm will put up at least 50 against the NH Tars. That game will have a running clock the entire 2nd half.

Same w/ Los Al tonight v. Carson. Survived 5 TO's and a couple zebras to escape w/ a 24-14 win. Defense led they way for the Griffins. Tesoro next week, then on to play FV to start league.

Maybe that gap between south coast and sunset is not so wide once you get past mission Viejo

I would agree Bick. Cdm blew out El Toro and beat SC. I think Cdm would beat Capo and Tesoro which leaves you with Mission! I would love to see O’Shea schedule either Mission/La Habra/Capo next year. JSerra will be off the schedule and I’d love to see one of those matchups added. Cdm only has one Sr starter on offense and only a couple on defense. They will be loaded next year and it would be fun to see Garbers/Humphreys/Redman/Schlom get a shot at a big public. I think Cdm could give MV a Game next year. This year not a chance.

Thanks Bick, much appreciated and it surely was. Maybe as big as ever.

For some time now the program has been what I have pointed out on occasion, on the "RISE". How the program in football has come up to what the rest of CDM Athletics have achieved is a long story, football for a small public school has always been a challenge. If you could understand the feeling for decades of being the JV team to a Newport Harbor or having to take critics smack downs on facing weak competition to get wins you would then truly be able to understand what we are feeling these days at CDM.

If you have not forgot, I told you all to ignore the PCL games and judge where this program and team is on the non-league games and CIF playoffs over the past few years. CDM has been and is right there with the best in Orange County. And why I say the win @ San Clemente may be as big as ever..., it is against a team and program that represents the best in OC public HSF. Coach Ortiz is one of the best and his team record over the past years say so not to mention the success of many of his players at the higher level.

I also would add that playing publics with twice your enrollment is a hurdle not easy to overcome outside bringing in transfers to bolster your depth pool. School like San Clemente and Los Alamitos enroll over 3K students. CDM has about 1,500 9-12.

So where is Sunset now and all those proclaiming it is a down year? CDM takes out OC powerhouse SC and Los Alamitos takes out LA powerhouse LBP? Maybe the names and teams have changed but right now the Sunset has very respectful representation. All the talk of a down year (should CDM win some games) does not look to be panning out. Like Newps said, take out MV and maybe the gap is not so big between South Coast and Sunset.

No one will beat MV in South Coast, next you have SC, Tesoro whom lost to SJH on Friday and Capo whom I think has a real talent and athlete in Manning at QB but they have not played any caliber teams yet, Tustin, La Mirada, Pacifica, Yorba Linda, Trabuco --:-- and they still have Cypress and Mark Keppel coming up next :eh?:

Talking Sunset as I see it today it will be CDM or LA. Feel bad for the Edison QB and not sure of his status or back up? Is HB the next best w/ McLawyer? FV fell to Adelanto? And Newps your analogy on NH is probably spot on. Only question is when will O' Shea call off the dogs.

@Newps, good conversation to be had regarding whom should CDM schedule next season outside league. Is MV or LH on O' Shea's radar? I think the answer would be more clear knowing what division CDM gets bumped too.

Looking ahead, Edison will host a desperate San Clemente team and Los Alamitos will travel to Tesoro while CDM enjoys their "BYE" week.
