Orange County's Top 10 Wide Receivers 2018

Postby SK80 » Fri Aug 03, 2018 11:20 am

So Danny Albano goes with KYLE FORD over BRU McCOY...... Debate :slapfight: After all a ya'llz Trinity guys beat up each other who is better I'll throw the #3 guy into the mix for more :hitonhead: fun...!

Dan puts just two Juniors on his list....,

Albano on football: Top 15 wide receivers for 2018

Dan Albano’s Top 10 wide receivers to watch in 2018:

1.Kyle Ford, Orange Lutheran, Sr.

The uncommitted senior (6-3, 195) is coming off an impressive junior season and summer. He earned MVP honors at The Opening finals. His numbers last season were scary (91 catches, 1,468 yards), so there’s a chance he collects 100 receptions in 2018. Most Pac-12 schools have offered, along with Michigan among others.

2. Bru McCoy, Mater Dei, Sr.

McCoy, Orange County’s No. 1 athlete, was slowed during the offseason by sports hernia surgery but looked good in his return at the Mission Viejo passing tournament. He replaces Amon-Ra St. Brown as the Monarchs’ top target. He should easily surpass his 2017 totals of 46 catches for 770 yards.

3. John Humphreys, Corona del Mar, Jr.

The rising junior was a force during the spring and summer and appears set to build upon a strong sophomore season. He has been offered by USC among several Pac-12 schools.

4. Tarik Luckett, JSerra, Sr.

The sure-handed Luckett uses his frame well to shield defenders and isn’t afraid of contact. He uncommitted senior looks headed toward a big season.

5. MuNir McClain, JSerra, Sr.

The USC commit is coming off a knee injury late last season and didn’t participate at the Battle at Beach tournament in early July. He is expected to be ready by the season but it could take him a few games to find his stride.

6. Logan Loya, Orange Lutheran, Jr.

The shifty slot receive might be the best route runner in the county. He also has excellent hands, so look for him to continue his rise.

7. Braedin Huffman-Dixon, Mater Dei, Sr.

The Colorado commit progressed during the summer in building chemistry with USC committed quarterback Bryce Young. He was especially effective at the Battle at the Beach tournament. There’s a good chance Huffman-Dixon is the Monarchs’ No. 2 receiver.

8. JoJo Forest, Mission Viejo, Sr.

Forest, who was recently offered by Oregon State, is a two-way standout who appears headed toward a breakout season. He starred at the Battle at the Beach passing tournament.

9. Akili Arnold, Mission Viejo, Sr.

Arnold moves to slot receiver after a huge junior season at running back. Expect his production to continue in the Diablos’ no-huddle, spread attack.

10. Dylan Bonilla, Villa Park, Sr.

The slick, 5-foot-10, 160-pound senior showed outstanding chemistry over the summer with Purdue-bound quarterback Paul Piferi, so get ready for an air show.

OTHER TO WATCH

11. Kody Epps, Mater Dei, Jr.; 12. JoJo Hawkins, Orange Lutheran, Sr.; 13. Tyler Shimomura, JSerra, Sr.; 14. Deavyn Woullard, Mission Viejo, Sr.; 15. Kalani Washington, La Habra, Sr.

John Humphreys puts on show as Corona del Mar wins battle of Sea Kings

A notable night for Junior Wide Receiver JOHN HUMPHREYS of CORONA DEL MAR setting a school record with 13 catches.

Humphreys broke the previous CdM single-game record of 11, set by Steven Hillgren in 2006 and matched by Peter Bush (Jr. FB Michigan) in 2015. He finished with 214 yards receiving, including touchdown catches of 60, 40 and nine yards.

Corona del Mar High's John Humphreys pulls in a pass over Palos Verdes' Joseph Quinn in a nonleague game at Newport Harbor High on Thursday. He had touchdown catches of 60, 40 and nine yards. (Christine Cotter)

We have a ton of guys who can make plays, and I think that freed me up. They couldn’t really double me, or Mark either.

JOHN HUMPHREYS, CORONA DEL MAR HIGH RECEIVER

School records don't come nor fall easily.... Congrats John =D>

I think we need to add a player to the top 3. Clark Phillips 3 at La Habra.
Even though he is a top DB, he is at 26 receptions for 360 yards and 7 TDs thus far . Dual threat! Kid is a beast!!

CP3 is a phenomenal athlete and he wasn't listed as a WR so he did not get the credit due at season beginning. His high TD/Rec ratio looks impressive do you know if his TD's this year are big plays due to break away speed or are they using him more in the red zone?

Like CP3, Humphrys also plays FS so he is on both sides most all game. He is a remarkable athlete. Both kids showing OC PROUD with many D1 offers.

SK80, the county records are within reach, but John breaking them is largely dependent on how deep his school goes in the playoffs.

Single Season Receiving Yardage
1,732 - Jordan Schmidt, Orange
1,690 - Tony Hartley, Los Alamitos
1,586 - Ryan Cragun, St. Margaret's

Single Season Receiving TD's
22 - Tae Le, Corona del Mar
21 - Amon-Ra St. Brown, Mater Dei
21 - Jeremy Childs, Los Alamitos
21 - Steven Ward - Servite

THNX MDDad, like last year when MD's Amon-Ra got the TD catch that passed CDM's Tae Le with that extra CIF game/run MD had..... will be interesting for John as they face some better competition yet that may play well as O' Shea sits his starters in blow out as opposed to letting kids run at records.

Other than number of games played and quality of opposition, receiving records are also often a function of other things. Receiving numbers are usually higher on a team with a poor running game, just as they are higher when the go-to receiver is much better than the team's secondary receivers. For example, one reason Amon-Ra St. Brown only had 21 TD catches in 2016 is because the other receivers on the team were good enough to have 46.

But records are fun and they're made to be broken. Good luck to John in his pursuit.

FWIW, Soph Mitch Leigber has 7 tds (and a punt return td) in only 3 games.

Didn't he miss the first 2-3 games with a hand injury?

Jake Landry of El Toro make s a big jump up the ranks, Caine Savage and those dudes at Western are beyond pass happy racking up the yards and wins for Western, and I need to check what the heck Chase Nenad had against Utah! Cdm's John Humphreys continues to lead in yardage and a TD total of 12

Orange County receiving leaders after the Week 4 games.

I just noticed that "Wide Receivers" was abbreviated in the thread title and changed it. (I had a busy week)

Seriously, guys. Abbreviations do your threads, the people mentioned in them and the site a disservice. "QB's" can be abbreviated; almost nothing else should be.
