My Thought Of The Day!

Postby SLK230 » Mon Sep 10, 2018 8:01 am

When you strip all the bull aside aren’t protesters really nothing more than just whiners?
If you don’t like something instead of whining about it do something positive to change it. Moaning and groaning is not (IMO) positive

Thought for the day:
We are always hearing about how Social Security is going to run out of money.
How come we never hear about Welfare running out of money?

The anti-war activists of the 60s would disagree with you.

As would those who fought to end segregation.

As would those who fought for women's suffrage.

As would those who fought to separate from the British.

I would say no to your question.

There is no "real proof" that the protesters did any of that. Progress or lack of progress happens regardless of external factors. If there is any result at all it is minimal at best.

Protests bring attention. That is the start of change.
They told me if I voted for Hillary Clinton the president would be emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable. They were right. I voted for Hillary Clinton and got a president that is emotional, impulsive, and unpredictable.

Big deal it brings attention. That is positive and negative attention.

I never said all protests achieve the desired result. But I can cite examples where the end result was achieved.

Prove that protesting works. The result may or may not been achieved anyway.

I'll prove that protesting works when you can show the outcome would have been achieved without protests in the same timeframe.

Child labor laws
The 40-hour week
Women voting
Civil Rights Act
Vietnam War
Lake Erie is no longer on fire

Next question.

That's the point you can't prove it either way. You believe because you want to believe.

JQP where is your proof? The same result may or may not have taken place with or without the protest.

They just gave several tangible examples.

Don't forget the changes are mostly political changes. Being that politicians are mostly self serving they don't give a hoot about your protest. Sometimes your thinking and theirs might agree sometimes they don't.

Ford to your point. The tea party was not a protest as much as a positive act of defiance. It only happened once.
I have no problem with positive acts.

Examples of what? Where is the proof that the time line changed due to the protest. Hell the Vietnam war went on for over 10 years. I guess the protesters just weren't very good at protesting?

They didn't start protesting till the late 60s. US involvement ended in the early 70s.

You haven't addressed my point. How do you know the outcomes would have happened in the same timeframe.

It was vandalism and a protest.
