Well, MD and DLS is going to go at it again this Saturday night. Who wins it?

MD in a close one. DLS plays ball control with clever play calling and execution to perfection while the unfocused "Saturday" Monarchs show some rust and keep piling up the dumb penalties. After heading into the locker room down at the half, Rollo rips them a new one and they get it together enough to pull it out in the 2nd half

DLS is a lot better team this year, however they are still young. MD's defense is superior if they decide to show up.
MD' offense is not last year's team but should be adequate. DLS does have a QB this year, so I call MD in a closer game.

Remember all those years when DLS would come down and beat Poly and MD?

DLS draws from an area encompassing MD,BOSCO,POLY, they are the ONLY Catholic game in town in Northern Cal.

Now because MD and BOSCO get pretty much whom ever they want, the field is more level

Result is the winner in So. Cal regardless MD, Bosco, CC, takes the Northern representative.

Daforno is right, now don't get me wrong,if DLS was a SOCAL team since it"s foundation, it would have no where near the record they have now. DLS is the ONLY elite Catholic/Private FB power in the ENTIRE
CIF north coast section (the section they play in) - it's so bad that none of the entire section teams
want to be in a league with them! They have played an independent schedule for quite some time
now (might have changed recently) when they did play in a league none of their wins against the other
teams counted for league standings! That's how bad it is in NorCal!

There is no other competitive FB power in a 50 square mile area to DLS - and Daforno is right,it
would be like MD having all of the OC to itself, or Bosco having a third of the entire LA county
to themselves.Believe it or not, MD and Bosco are now on a level playing field with DLS.

No, he's not right

Daforno wrote:DLS draws from an area encompassing MD, BOSCO, POLY

Meaningless. A much larger area with many fewer people living in it...just OC alone is 3x the population of Contra Costa county, then there's LA right across the street

they are the ONLY Catholic game in town in Northern Cal

Nope. There are MANY Catholic schools in the area they compete for students with...Cardinal Newman, Marin Catholic, Saint Patrick’s-St. Vincent, St. Mary, Bishop O’Dowd, Salesian, Moreau

None of the "other" catholic schools you mentioned play a lick of Football

if you are a football player and Catholic OR NOT you go to DLS, of course we have a lot more people down here, but we have so many more schools competing for those kids, DLS has ZERO competition for kids even in a smaller population, they get them ALL

That's true.

DLS is the ONLY elite Catholic/Private FB power in the ENTIRE CIF north coast section (the section they play in) - it's so bad that none of the entire section teams want to be in a league with them! They have played an independent schedule for quite some time now (might have changed recently) when they did play in a league.

That's true, except for one thing. This year, De La Salle joined the East Bay Mountain League, and their league games counted in the league standings.

There is no other competitive FB power in a 50 square mile area to DLS

Well, there certainly are no other private FB powers within a 50-square mile area, and the only public school close by and within three TDs of De La Salle is Pittsburg.

Omar Bongo wrote:Nope. There are MANY Catholic schools in the area they compete for students with...Cardinal Newman, Marin Catholic, Saint Patrick’s-St. Vincent, St. Mary, Bishop O’Dowd, Salesian, Moreau

Yes, they compete with them for students, but certainly not for student-athletes. St.Patrick St. Vincent, Salesian and Moreau Catholic are not top 300 programs in the state - they are roughly equivalent to some of our better small private schools. Bishop O'Dowd is a far cry from what they used to be. Marin Catholic and Cardinal Newman are top 100 programs, but they are 37 and 78 miles away respectively. Only St. Mary's is a state top 20 program, and they are 61 miles away.

De La Salle's situation is geographically equivalent to JSerra's proximity to St. John Bosco - but with no Mater Dei, Orange Lutheran, Servite or Mission Viejo in between.

Everyone has quotes that they remember for years. One I remember came from Bob Ladouceur during the last few years of The Streak. He was asked for a newspaper or magazine article what the biggest factor was for his program's remarkable success. His response was, "The train from Oakland."

Maybe Daforno can list all the players with D-1 offers on the current DLS roster...MD has what, a couple dozen?

DLS has had a good team for decades mainly because they had/have a great program...they traditionally have done much more with less than any other school I can think of

That's more than I thought, from what I gather the total is usually countable on one hand

Let's not forget the largely creampuff schedule, either :2cents:

Can't read the "Gold Club" article, but FWIW, word is that Mark Tennis of CalHiSports.com says De La Salle’s defense ranks in the top five in the school’s history...

Well, obviously we have giant butterflies in CA. They's climbin' in your windows, They's snatchin' your people up, tryin' to steal 'em. So y'all need to hide your kids, hide your stars, and hide your coaches cause they're grabin' everybody out here.

Another embarrassing situation for the school and the program. Thug Ball. At what cost victory? What do you expect when you bring this element into the school. "He that lieth down with dogs shall rise up with fleas." - Franklin

Thug Ball easily beats DLS. I hear they're printing "Catholics vs. Convicts" t-shirts in Concord.
