Just for the sake of argument - or for the sake of bringing logic and reason into a discussion where they aren't often found - let's say we get rid of all of the illegals picking our crops, slaughtering our meat, making Donald's beds and mowing his putting greens, milking Nunes' cows and, in the latest ICE raid, refurbishing phones and replace them with real American citizens or legal immigrants. Er, wait. Strike that last one. Low-wage workers don't qualify under the current immigration rules, so we replace all of them with American workers.
So. For starters, the unemployment rate would go down to, like, zero, which is never good because it tightens the labor market and drives up wages. But wages would have to go up anyway because Americans won't do that kind of work for those wages and no benefits, which would drive up costs. Also, American citizens and most legal immigrants actually are eligible for all of the benefits people claim illegals steal from us, which would also drive up costs and probably force a tax increase since low-wage workers cost more than they contribute, regardless of citizenship.
Is that really such a good idea or should we put turnstiles in Donald's wall or create a new guest worker policy? Or is a certain level of illegal immigration part of the Deep State's plan? It seems to me that our way of life pretty much requires us to have an underclass of workers because any alternative would cost us even more.
Don't look at me, I just work here.
