Open aka D1 FB

Just a curious question with the way CIF set up the new playoff format what is the incentive to be in D1? You don't think some teams might tank late in the year to avoid having to play MD or Bosco first round?

So possibly lose league just to drop down to DII? I couldn't imagine an HC bringing that idea up to the coaches meeting.

I love this new division. Good chance Mission Viejo draws Bosco or Mater Dei in the first round. Oaks Christian and Jserra should end up as the third and 4th seeds.

It will be interesting to see who fills out the bracket. For sure it will be Bosco, MD, CC and MV. Then you would need to add the third placr Trinity league teams plus 3 more teams. Finishing 4th in the Trinity night just be enough to get a top 4 seed in the new D2. There won’t be an issue of tanking but I would sure rather be the #9 overall all team and be a #1 seed in D2 than be #8 and face certain death in the first round of D1. I wonder if any of the usual CIF bracketing rules will apply to D1 (not playing teams in your own league in first round etc...).

Teams will be playing for league champions and I don’t see any head coach giving up being league champs to play in division two
