JSerra has had a weird season. They’ve got double digit wins over a now 6-3 Salt Lake City East team on the road, and a 5-2 Calabasas team with Power 5 talent galore. They also gave a 6-1 Amat team it’s only loss, 38-14, and gutted out a Trinity Classic win over defending Georgia 7A state champ Milton when Malaki Teo turned into Superman (I can testify).
But they also threw away (literally) a game against St Joes Regional from New Jersey, and gave up 7 consecutive TDs to Bosco last week after scoring on their opening possession (thanks mostly to an 80+ yard return on the opening kick by Sammy Green). They also scored 1 touchdown in the first half against TL doormat SM.
Can JSerra’s offense wake up and perform this week? Is OC Eric Rescigno on the hot seat down the stretch of the season? Should he be?
Has anyone seen Cal commit Chris Street? Did he enroll early at Berkeley? Is Keyan Burnett in the witness protection program with Chad Johnson? Can Sammy Green get some more touches? How about Earnest McDaniel? Is that line really as physical and tough as Harlow talked about? Who will start at QB this week for the Lions, Booty or Phillips? Who will finish? If it’s Booty, where is his head at? Will they rotate? Can they complete 5 passes in this game? How about a deep ball or three?
Can the defense bounce back after last week? Will Malaki Teo, Jaden Genova and Siale Suliafu be able to get pressure on Noah Fifita all night like MD did? Will star safety New Zealand Williams be able to plug all the holes in that JSerra secondary, facing off against TMac, Centers, Moon and Avinger?
If the Lions lose this one with talent and experience advantages in key positions (not QB), I think it’s fair to question whether they will ever take the next step in the League under Harlow.
