Non CIF Football This Year?

Post by Beeman221 » Sun Jun 28, 2020 1:42 pm

Has anyone else heard anything about a possible non-school/district affiliated Football season happening this year in case CIF doesn’t allow football to take place this fall/year? A league similar to offseason travel-ball that baseball does? Or maybe the private schools across the state playing each other? Thanks

Where did you hear about it? In any case, I don't think there will be football during
the regular high school season (maybe wrong) and those that think football can be moved to
January might be wishful thinking, you would have all the school sports teams
(varsity and ALL the level teams) vying for facilities and fields at the same time!
Plus - scheduling would be worse than a nightmare!

If the CIF approves of football for the regular High School season, it will be an abbreviated
season, where you could have a 5/6 game regular season and no playoffs? Anyone?

The logistics around that sound like a nightmare to me. And the legal aspect alone...

Read somewhere (can't remember where) they're thinking of switching baseball and football seasons, baseball pretty much has social distancing built-in...

That might be a plan, but what to you gain starting in October, January or August? CIF might just set the schedule and dump all the risk on individual districts and schools. Everybody has to sign a Covid wavier to participate.

The plan I saw was 2 preseason games, 5 league, plus playoffs with no state tourney.
