White-on-thigh shootings

Post by John Q. Public »

Not always White and not always thigh -- groin and foot are also popular -- but there seems to be a growing trend of people who fear going out in public unarmed of attacking their own bodies. It's rarely prosecuted, even when it involves someone else's leg. Maybe it isn't on the authorities' radar, even though it seems to be a more popular use of firearms than either defensive use or officer-involved shootings.

Kicking it off with one from yesterday and one from the day before:
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A man was injured Saturday evening when he accidentally shot himself while he was in a Raleigh biker bar, police said.

The incident was reported around 6:40 p.m. at the Hawg Pen bar at 900 Hodges St., which is just off Wake Forest Road south of Six Forks Road, according to Raleigh police.

The shooting happened when a man was taking a gun out of a holster and the gun accidentally fired*, hitting him in the thigh, police said.

BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - Guests were alarmed by the sound of gunfire inside the Treasure Bay casino late Friday night.

Biloxi police said this was an accidental shooting, and the person with the gun suffered from “a very superficial leg wound” due to the shooting.

Treasure Bay CEO Susan Varnes also confirmed that a weapon accidentally discharged* in a guest’s pocket, even though weapons are not allowed in casinos.

There's a bicoastal roadrunner involved here somewhere.
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County woman is recovering from a gunshot wound to the leg in what investigators describe as a hunting accident in Kanawha County.

The 30-year old victim from Clendenin was shot in the thigh around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Reports indicate the woman was coyote hunting in a remote part of the county and leaned a 30-30 Winchester rifle against the side of her four-wheeler.

State Police indicated the rifle was cocked and apparently tipped over, discharged, and struck her in the leg.

I used to own a Model 94. Dad bought it in 1960. Got a great price since it was a pre-1964 model.

Pretty foolproof firearm.

But as the saying goes;

"Make something foolproof, and only a fool will use it."

Tennessee man, fearing for his life to do so, shops for pants at Walmart. His gun says they make his butt look fat. Bonus points for the self-shooting gun.
A gun went off inside McMinnville's Walmart on Friday around 4:30 p.m., but there is no threat to the public.

The gun reportedly discharged while a man was changing clothes inside a dressing room. The gun went off and the man was shot by his own gun in the back of his leg.

I am always impressed at how many gun owners manage to shoot themselves and others accidentally.
