BOMBSHELL Mater Dei Locker Room Hazing Incident

Post by easycheesy »

By SCOTT M. Reid

“Where’s your watch?”

The shout from a Mater Dei High School football player alerted his teammates to two players about to square off in the school’s freshman locker room for Bodies, an initiation or hazing ritual where players punch each other in the torso between the hips and shoulders until one of them surrenders.

On this afternoon, prior to a Mater Dei practice in February, one of the participants, 5-foot-9, 175 pounds and a newcomer to the team, paced uneasily, shirtless, a chain with a crucifix dangling around his neck, while his opponent, more than 50 pounds heavier, moved from side to side in a narrow area near the room’s red lockers.

“Got the timer right here, guy,” a player can be heard yelling over laughter on a video of the incident. “Ready, three, two, one, go.”

"The injured student, identified in this report as Player 1, eventually withdrew from Mater Dei and continues to have issues related to his brain injury, according to records and interviews. The other student, Player 2, continues to play for an undefeated Monarchs team, that is currently ranked No.1 nationally by USA Today and plays Servite for the CIF Southern Section Division 1 championship Friday night."

Wtf? The kid is still an active starter

I don’t know any details but where does it say the kid is an active starter? Not that it matters anyway. This is very ugly

Just another story, MD tried to hide. They are pretty good at it. Tip of the iceberg.

No one is still talking about Coach Money being gone.

Yes, it's a YUGE conspiracy!

Or, since the article stated the lawsuit was filed today, maybe, just mayyyybe, there's a different explanation. Nah, let's just believe what we want to be true.

Either way, what does it matter? And you're aware Scott M. Reid is not Steve Fryer's pseudonym, right?

And again I will ask where does it say he is a starter? Maybe he is. I have no idea.

It just says he's continuing to play for an undefeated Monarchs team which insinuate(to me anyway) the kid is playing (starter or rotating).

When you also consider the fact the kid in question is likely a sophomore now (it says he was a freshman in the spring) and that MD starts a ton of sophomores one can't help but wonder if he really does start or continue playing

Good question! What the heck is going on? Coach Money is a legend in his own right so him leaving is not something that should be swept under the rug.

Aren’t we all just waiting like little school girls for RPW to set the record straight on all of it. Cause if anyone knows every scandalous details, it’s the Rex Reed/Rhona Barrett of HS Football.
I can tell you one thing that is fact… in the early 2000’s neither this idiotic ritual nor anything even close to resembling hazing occurred. So it’s NOT an MD “tradition”. Is it a product of the new program model? Hmmm….
But what begs a huge question for me is how a HS refuses to speak to authorities about a criminal complaint of violence on their campus.
Be shocked if this isn’t Rollo’s farewell tour. The Diocese may have something to say about that.
Sad all the way around.

This news goes on to make us think that Mater Dei will have less Money in the future.
