Thanks to the generous offer by former Newport Beach mayor, Tom Edwards and a coalition of Newport Beach residents to help "share the load" with South County, the NHRA is pleased to announce that planning is underway for the Little Corona Nuclear Generating Station. The facility will will have an output capacity of approximately 1,000,000 kilowatts, greatly reducing the burden currently being placed on the San Onofre plant and virtually eliminating Orange County's dependence on power purchased from other areas. Nuclear power is one of the cleanest, quietest and most efficient ways of producing electricity. It produces no air or water pollution and reduces our reliance on the earth's rapidly diminishing supply of fossil fuels. This plant alone will save in excess of 20 million barrels of oil per year, and at a time when OPEC is reducing the supply of oil, this savings will have a significant impact on the cost of gasoline and other petroleum based products. |
