Five acres will be set aside as a preserve to celebrate Back Bay's rich ecological history. In the museum, visitors will be able to view a lifelike scale model of the bay as it looked when it was one of California's most pristine coastal marshland habitats. Also on display will be examples of many of the plant and animal species that once called Back Bay home, many in very accurate reconstructions of their original surroundings. Very little grading will be used in the construction in order to preserve the natural landscaping. Visitors will be able to experience the native ecoscape in the same state that they would have hundreds of years ago. Children will enjoy meeting the indigenous creatures up close in the petting zoo. |
