..If he were to win, I believe MD would be the only high school in the nation
with three Heisman winners and with four Heisman finalists counting the
late Colt Brennan. BTW, I think there was/is a TV documentary on Brennan.

The question is whether next year Bryce Young becomes the first player since Archie Griffin to win back-to-back Heismans.

Has to be Young, played his best game of the year on TV against the number 1 team in Georgia’s back yard Atlanta.
With Bama’s playoff life on the line.
Should be unanimous!!!

CONGRATS BRYCE YOUNG

1st Alabama QB to win it. 2nd consecutive Bama winner (only the 6th college to ever accomplish that). Nick Saban and Frank Leahy the only coaches to produce 4 Heisman winners. ESPN Host Chris Fowler closes the show with: “Shout out to Mater Dei High School on its 3rd Heisman winner.” First HS to ever have 3. The start of what will probably be a good 🏆 night for the Monarchs. Surprised Plascke didn’t preempt it by releasing a story today about someone allegedly tossing urine in Bryce’s locker when he transferred to MD from Cathedral.

Archie Moore was a very good fighter. He was the light-heavyweight champion of the world, fought as a pro 220 times and was still fighting at age 49. But he died without ever winning a Heisman.

1-Archie Moore actually knocked down Rocky Marciano, but yeah, great fighter
2-Congrats Bryce. Good move going to Cathedral to Mater Dei. Cathedral was 1-8 this past year. MD was 12-0.
3-Despite Huarte, Leinart and Bryce Young, I still would pick Matt Grootegoed as the best MD has ever produced, at least at the HS level. Not to take any shine away from Bryce. Just an observation.

I still would pick Matt Grootegoed to have the best game ever for Mater Dei in the championship game against Long Beach Poly.

I challenge anyone to cite a better performance in a HS game ANYWHERE, EVER. I'll tell you right now, no one can. Game was against the #2 team in the nation, MD had only lost to the #1 team by 7 (on that damn, lucky 3rd and forever run by Callen), and had Poly won by more than 7, the Natty would have been theirs. Championship game, for all the marbles, and Groots runs for 240+ AND is defensive MVP to boot. Sure, Bryce was "better" as I'm sure he'll play in the league for as long as he wants, but Groots had (and will always have had) the best individual performance in MD and HS history.

Groot's game is what legends are made of.
To think I have seen every high school pass two eventual Heisman trophy winners ever threw.
